A faucet is one of the most important and functional parts of our sink. It helps in running water on and off from the sink and helps in controlling the running water. And if you are planning to change your sink or build a new one but are confused about which type of faucet suits you the best and comes under budget, then this article is for you.
Types of faucet
There are mainly four types of faucets:
- Ball
- Disc
- Cartridge
- Compression
1) Ball Faucet
This is the first type of washerless faucet and is very common in the kitchen sink. It has a single handle that moves around a rounded ball-shaped cap situated above the base faucet spout. The exterior part is more durable than the inner part, and the inner part requires more maintenance compared to other types of faucets. They leak more water compared to other types of faucets because it requires a lot of parts to make this faucet. As it is an older technology, it is the least expensive type of faucet.
2) Disc faucet
Ceramic faucet technology is the latest development in modern faucet technology. They have a single lever over a wide cylindrical body. They are of high quality, very reliable and do not need much maintenance. This is a good option for people with hand grip issues. These are also more expensive compared to other faucets, and the disks erode over time.
3) Cartridge faucet
The cartridge faucets come with double handles and have smooth and consistent action. The handle can go from off to on position with half turn. These are easy to replace and durable and require less maintenance compared to other faucets, but the hard water deposits can block the cartridge.
4) Compression washer faucet
They can be easily found in old homes and can be seen in utility sinks built in newer homes. They are cheap but are not durable and originally prone to leaks, and require much maintenance. They can be easily recognised by their hot and cold separate handles, and they work using a compression stem.
